Struggling against a tide of uncomfortable feeling
|
Emotions, like hunger or other sensory experiences, have a unique range within every individual. Many times you may manage life along with the ‘ups and downs’ effectively. There are also times when current or even past life events cause great sadness and sometimes suffering for a person. These feelings may bring about many of the commonly listed signs/symptoms of depression such as sadness most of the day, low energy or fatigue, loss of interest in favorite activities, feelings of hopelessness, difficulty concentrating, irritability, low self-esteem, difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep or sleeping too much, weight loss or weight gain, and even thoughts about dying. However, even if you do not recognize the multiple symptoms you know that you are not your true self. Good self-care means that you listen to your own feelings as well as to your body and that you find resources to take care of your needs. No life is without pain, but I believe within every person there is a capacity for joy and fulfillment. Managing ups and downs, finding satisfaction, and appreciating the internal qualities and the outer circumstances can become difficult or elusive at times. Through our work together we will move toward fuller understanding of the issues surrounding your sadness, endeavor to discover your inner resources, and find ways for you to take hold of the happiness and pleasure that you sense you are missing in your life. |
